Curriculum

The following courses are offered alternatively througout the year.  If a course you are interested in is not offered on a particular quarter, it may have a prerequisite.

Review the schedule before filling out your registration form to make sure the course is offered. 

  • Painting Courses....   Acrylics

    Acrylics is an excellent medium for introduction to painting.   It's non toxic, fast drying characteristics allow the student to make corrections easily without creating a 'mess'.   Spontaneity is essential for inspiration and expression.

    All our students begin with Acrylics.  It is ideal for children as well as adults.

  • Painting courses.....Oils

    Oils is a more delicate and deliberate medium for painting. It should be approached with intent and good methodology.

    Because of the required use of solvents, like turpentine and and paint thinners, it should only be used when the student is knowledgeable of basic painting techniques, careful, well trained in drawing, and old enough to understand the risks.

    The Art House minimum age requirement for starting oils is age 12.

  • Painting courses.... Watercolors

    Watercolors is one of the most beautiful and delicate forms of painting.          Watercolors require specific techniques if it is to be represented correctly.  Wet on wet applications, dry brush, salting, sponging, scoring and waxing are some of the most common ones. 

    It is considered a difficult medium because those technical nuances are essential for it's success, and it's low mistake forgiveness level.
    Watercolors is not the best medium for younger artists.  Pre-requisites:  Drawing I - II  and Acrylic painting I

  • Drawing.....     Charcoal

    Drawing techniques are essential to the advancement of art.  Learning to draw will ensure the understanding of form and composition.

    This course will guide the student through learning the usage of basic techniques such as shading, line relationship and contour drawing, and the understanding of concepts necessary to this medium including light direction, proportion, depth and perspective.

  • Pen & Ink

    Pen & ink techniques are specific and detailed.   Weather it is 'hatching', 'cross hatching', 'speckling' or 'scribbling' this course will help refine your drawing skills to the highest levels.  The beauty of the delicate lines create amazing works of art remmeniscent of DaVinci's famous drawings.   Dedication and patience are essential.    Drawing I - II are prerequisites.

     

     

  • Fashion Design

    This course is a fashion illustration course.  It introduces the student to the concepts  of proportion and dimension of the human body.   It begins by creating a model, then to garment basics (tops, skirts, pants etc.) and continues with creative tools to compose an original portfolio, from t-shirts to evening gowns and wedding dresses.   

    Once the basics are learned the student will be introduced to textiles, it's characteristics and limitations.   The course continues into pattern making and eventually sewing. 

    This course is divided in three sessions,Level I (Fall )... Level II (Winter).....            Level III   (Spring)      Age 12 and up.       Click to Register

     

  • Ceramics & Sculpture

    Our ceramic courses are geared towards the introduction to hand building and three dimensional concepts.    Learning basic techniques like coiling, the use of slabs, slip and scoring and design making like intaglio and relief, provide the student with great hand dexterity and visual understanding of form and style.

    Ceramics is a great medium for the young beginner (ages 5- 10) as well as the older student who is interested in sculpture or pottery.
