The Art House Summer Camps
This Camp is designed for the beginner in art. Four major areas will be introduced: drawing, sculpture, painting (acrylic on canvas) and art appreciation. Our field trip to the MFA on Thursdays is the highlight of our camps.
The instruction is surrounded with demonstrations, hands on projects, visual exposure and anecdotal accounts of artists' lives and their artistic styles, including movies and readings. Click to register
Drawing Camp. Ages: 8 - 14
Basic principles of drawing: shading, line relationship and proportion are the techniques introduced in this intensive camp. The medium is charcoal and the projects include abstraction, still life and animals.
Painting Camp. Ages 8 -12
This camp is an introduction to Acrylic painting techniques. It involves coloring, composition and application. A particular style will be selected for each camp. Impressionism, Expressionism or Abstraction. This will determine the rooms that will be visited at the MFA on Thursdays and the artists introduced.
Fashion Design. Ages 10 - 16
A crash course in the design and rendition of fashion ideas. Learning to draw the human body in proportion and in relation to fashion presentation. Understanding fabrics and fabric content will also be a significant part of this camp. A field trip to a fabric store or a local designer will be included the schedule.
Pen & INK DRAWING (intermediate) .
Sculpture Camp 6-12
The hand building techniques introduced in this camp will be coil construction, slab construction and free hand molding. In more advanced groups, wire, found objects and other materials may also be introduced. The understanding and construction of 3-D concepts is our goal.
Fashion Design age 10-16
This camp is fun and challenging for the student who is interested in learning the details of illustration, color schemes, history of fashion and how to build a portfolio.
Pen & Ink Ages 12-18
There are three very delicate techniques in pen and ink drawing: speckling , cross hatching and scribbling. This camp introduces the student to all three with a series of simple and beautiful projects that are challenging as well as rewarding. It also offers the means to build a refined portfolio for college or high schools. click to register
Watercolors ages 10-up
This beautiful medium is eloquent and beautiful but very technical in its rendition. Three basic techniques will be introduced in this camp: wet on wet, dry brush and sponging. Patience and perseverance will be tested and learned in this camp.
This stylistic method of writing is an excellent exercise for dexterity and improves regular writing skills.
Illustration/Writing
This camp is designed for the student who is interested in story telling, verse or prose and also illustrating their own story. A double benefit because they will be applying and learning skills from both sides of the brain. click to register
