Summer Camps

 The Art House summer camps are educational, fun and unique.  

                     REGISTRATIONS OPEN FEBRUARY  1, 2010

  • Special Camps   New

     

     ILLUSTRATION/ WRITING

    This camp will combine the art of story telling with the art of illustration.   A beautiful combination and balance of two arts into one. Thiscamp will be offered one week at each school location.

    Museum District school   June 7,   3:00 - 6:00 PM (one week)         The Art House-West       July 26,   3:00 - 6:00 PM (one week)

     

     CALLIGRAPHY 

    Beautiful handwriting is considered a thing of the past.   We will bring back fine writing techniques and provide the basics for calligraphic writing.   Exercises to improve hand control, proportion and accuracy.

  • General Information

        You can register any time at your convenience.    As camps fill up they will be removed from the schedule.   If a date is not available online, and you know someone registered in that camp, please call to confirm.   There are always new changes, additions, and updates.  Waiting lists will be used in case spots become available.  

    NOTE:    Cancellations must be submitted in writing 30 days prior to the start of camp to obtain A 75% refund.     Last minute cancellations will not receive refund.

Traditional Camps.   Ages: 5 - 12

This Camp is designed for the beginner.  Four major areas will be introduced: drawing, sculpture, painting (acrylic on canvas) and art history & appreciation.
The instruction is surrounded with demonstrations, hands on projects, visual exposure and anecdotal accounts of artists' lives and their artistic styles.

Drawing Camp.   Ages: 8 - 14    14-adults

Basic principles of drawing: shading, line relationship and proportion are the techniques introduced in this intensive camp.  The medium is charcoal and the projects include abstraction, still life and animals.

Painting CampAges 8 -11 and 12 - 18

This camp is an introduction to Acrylic painting techniques.   It involves coloring, composition and application.    A particular style will be selected for each camp.  Impressionism, Expressionism or Abstraction.   This will determine the rooms that will be visited at the MFA on Thursdays and the artists introduced.

Fashion Design.   Ages 10 - 16

A crash course in the design and rendition of fashion ideas.  Learning to draw the human body in proportion and in relation to fashion presentation.   Understanding fabrics and fabric content will also be a significant part of this camp.  A field trip to a fabric store or a local designer will be included the schedule.

Sculpture Camp 7-11   and  12 - 18

The hand building techniques introduced in this camp will be coil construction, slab construction and free hand molding.   In more advanced groups, wire, found objects and other materials may also be introduced.  The undertanding and construction of 3-D concepts is our goal.

Pen & Ink    Ages 12-18

prerequisite: drawing I    

There are three very delicate techniques in pen and ink drawing: speckling , cross hatching and scribbling.  This camp introduces the student to all three with a series of simple and beautiful projects that are challenging as well as rewarding.   It also offers the means to build a refined portfolio for college or high schools.

Watercolors   ages 10-up    prerequisite:  drawing I

This beautiful medium is eloquent and beautiful but very technical in its rendition. Three basic techniques will be introduced in this camp: wet on wet, dry brush and sponging.    Patience and perseverance will be tested and learned in this camp.
